What if I'd been born a Swan?

Little boy in Dutch Waters Art Photography by Corina Bouweriks

Life was simple.

Life used to be simple growing up surrounded by water, family and friends, it felt like heaven. Playing, jumping swimming, fishing, sailing. Ducks and swans in the front yard, eating leftovers from our lunch. Dark waters turning white in winter, little frozen hands and noses, hot chocolate and a warm bed.

Now I know. The other side. Powerful noise and deafening silence. A space where gravity doesn’t exist. The deeper, the darker.

What if I had been born a Swan. Investigating photography and people

Will we wake up in time?

For Nikita, Terry, Yara & Willem. My little swans.

The Project.

This photography project is slowly growing as a result of all that was before. Not knowing why certain feelings were there, still, I suddenly understood. I have to return to the water, the place I love and fear at the same time.

What if I had been born a Swan by Corina Bouweriks

Walk along with me, step by step. Mirroring the distortion of life. Silence and Power, Life and Death, Poetic beauty and the darkest fear, Salt and Sweet. It is black and white.

We can’t just wait and see.

The goal.

Without a goal. It’s just the simplicity of waters and people nearby. Poetic, moody & intimate. Just being there and observe. Remembering the happiness & loss and looking forward to meet again. Capturing the moments that I see is the moment it starts happening and making sense to me and the image will become a story.

Hoping there will be baby swans again next year.
